Biden administration to create a cybersecurity board and implement new software standards

U.S. President Joe Biden recently announced the creation of an air accident-style cyber review board and the imposition of new software standards for government agencies.

Indeed, the initiative was put into place after the significant cyberattacks that have targeted the United States. Hence, this aims to create an organization which goal would be to investigate major hacks and impose new security standards for software bought by government agencies.

It was also reported that the software rules would be drawn up by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology and would help protect small- and medium-sized businesses. By using the government’s power to improve security, organizations all over the country should be better protected from any threat.

The executive order was said to be a good first step but the United States is still not prepared to fend off state-sponsored or criminal hackers intent on compromising our systems for profit or espionage. It is then vital that Congress does more to address cyber vulnerabilities.
