A recent study by Canalys revealed that the US spending on cloud infrastructure services rose by 29% in the first quarter of 2021 to a record $18.6 billion (£13.10bn).
Indeed, it was reported that the total cloud expenditure in the US has increased by $4.2bn in the past year and around $621 million in the first quarter of the year. This could be explained by the number of companies embracing digital transformation during the pandemic.
Moreover, the US Government cloud spend is expected to continue rising in 2021 as organizations look into modernizing their technologies and increase cybersecurity practices. Besides, it was also stated that the major cloud providers would be expanding infrastructure in the US and building out dedicated services.
Hence, the study showed that the US was the largest market in Q1 2021, accounting for 44% of global spending, followed by China with 15%. The top three cloud service providers in the US were Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.
