It was recently announced that Google would be investing 1 billion euros by 2030 in its cloud computing infrastructure in Germany.
Indeed, the company stated that it was aiming to expand its cloud computing infrastructure in Germany as well as increase the use of renewable energy. It also declared to be working on adding new cloud computing centers in Berlin and Hanau.
In order to do so, the company reported it would purchase more than 140 megawatts of electricity from the German subsidiary of French utility company Engie so as to operate the data centers in the next few years. Engie then would guarantee that 80% of the electricity comes from carbon-free sources.
Google then aims to use 100% renewable energy by 2030.
