It was recently reported that Google would be investing up to $1 billion in the Indian telco, Bharti Airtel, as part of the India Digitalisation Fund.
Indeed, the partnership will aim to build on Airtel’s range of Android-enabled consumer devices as well as remove barriers to owning a smartphone by working with various device manufacturers. It hopes to co-create an India-specific network domain use case for 5G and other standards.
Google also plans to increase the cloud ecosystem in India in order to support local businesses in their digital adoption journey and scaling up the deployment of Google’s network virtualization solutions.
By doing so, Airtel and Google want to grow India’s digital dividend through innovative products.
