It was recently reported that Thames Valley Police force invested £14.4m on a project to develop software that it won’t actually be using.
Indeed, Thames Valley Police started to develop this project alongside Sussex and Surrey Police between 2016 and 2020. The software, called Equip, was made to improve the efficiency of the police’s back-office systems, including HR, finance, and learning and development.
However, in September, Thames Valley’s former police and crime commissioner declared being very dissatisfied with the software and thus, Thames Valley Police has decided to pull out of the project. Sussex Police and Surrey Police will still be using the software as they bought it.
There are currently talks to see if the software can be used or developed further as well as if it is possible to develop another enterprise resource planning system.
