The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has recently announced that the British Army will be using advanced technology as a key pillar for its operations.
Indeed, this new initiative called the Future Soldier aims to provide the Army with the capabilities it needs to address global next-generation threats. By doing so, the MoD wants to make the Army a globally engaged fighting force with emerging technologies and cyber capabilities, thanks to an investment of £8.6bn in equipment over the next 10 years.
The MoD then hopes that this programme will help to bring a number of changes to how the Army operates its structure, workforce, and technology. It will make the British Army into a more agile, integrated, lethal, expeditionary force so as to face the growing threats.
Moreover, one of the initiatives under the programme will focus on modernising the warfighting front and will be established in 2022. It will also be trialling new technologies and trying to integrate them into how soldiers fight and operate. For this, the Army will receive an important R&D investment.
