As automotive software is growing in importance to ensure the safety and innovation of vehicles, the Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp is planning to launch its own automotive software platform by 2025.
At the moment, Tesla still leads the autonomous car manufacturing market in the world, yet Asian carmakers are slowly rising in the industry by manufacturing and designing their own automotive software, including AI and processed data. Toyota is then looking to make its own operating system that will have advanced operations such as autonomous driving.
Indeed, the software platform Arene will be able to compete with German rivals like Volkswagen AG and Daimler AG as well as be available to affiliates in the future through a licensing model. The software will also control basic components such as the steering wheel, brakes, and accelerator and manage some of the vehicle’s safety systems and location information.
The company is aiming for consumers to be able to update the system online and benefit from quick improvements to performance.
