Finland has recently announced a new innovation project to build the country’s first quantum computer.
Indeed, the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs is set to fund the project for the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland until 2024. The government thinks that building a working quantum computer is the best way to tackle quantum computing.
Finland has already experience with quantum technology as it worked on quantum sensors as well as commercialized terahertz spectroscopy and terahertz imaging, which are quantum technologies used in space applications and in scanners at airports.
The country is now hoping to advance its development of quantum devices and sensors and get ahead of the curve on quantum computers. Finland is also aiming to increase their involvement in quantum computing through investments and growing skill sets. Hence, the research community InstituteQ is focusing on developing world-class quantum expertise and improving the use of quantum computing in organisations.
