Edinburgh council is set to spend £400,000 on new equipment for its public libraries as they are currently running on outdated software.
Indeed, the city libraries were still using Microsoft Windows 7 as it has continued to receive extended support for it. However, the operating system will stop being available after July 2022 and the computers are getting too old to be compatible with later versions of the OS. The ‘People’s Network’ (PN) will also be under a complete overhaul by the end of June.
It is then vital that the council works on improving the network’s digital offer, as well as widening its appeal for citizens by modernising the library service to meet the needs of users. The council then will have to spend around £400,000 to buy new equipment and software.
