Automation could lead to important inequalities in London

It was recently found out that increasing automation and switching to greener technologies could lead to further inequality in London.

Indeed, after the pandemic, many companies are starting to automate roles and use more automation within their processes. It was reported that 1.36m jobs in London were at risk of automation by 2030, which risks having an important impact on minorities.

Moreover, the capital is also looking to decrease its carbon footprint by creating green jobs requiring higher qualifications. It is then likely that around 400,000 jobs from ‘carbon intensive’ sectors in the capital will be dismissed.

As unemployment claims in London are still 80% above the pre-pandemic level, it is essential to reduce inequalities, especially as automation and decarbonization could lead to serious changes in the labour market.
