VR technology to help foster carers to connect with young people

Foster carers in Hampshire are using virtual reality to understand better how young people experience trauma.

Indeed, county council staff have started to follow 3D virtual reality training using headsets, which recreates simulated scenarios with vulnerable children. By doing so, they hope to understand the impact of trauma and mental illness on young people and learn how to deal with it.

This training, run by Antser, has been in place for a year and has helped carers to experience children’s points of view through various scenarios. They have then been able to connect more deeply with the situation and the children, making this approach all the more efficient.

Around 48 members of staff have been trained with the technology so far.
