VR to be used by mental health staff for training at King’s College Hospital

King’s College Hospital NHS is currently taking part in a virtual reality (VR) pilot in order to help its mental health staff to use the technology for diversity and inclusion training.

Indeed, mental health staff will be using VR headsets or mobile devices to strengthen empathy, inclusion, and interpersonal awareness during training. This will help educators feel like they are in the rooms with the patients and find the best solutions to care for them.

The project, developed by researchers from Maudsley Learning, Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and Virti, aims to tackle ongoing and systemic inequalities in healthcare. In the long run, the initiative will be scalable and reach more of the workforce with lower cost and experiential training.
