AI-based software to help make brain surgery safer

It was recently reported that the NHS is currently trialling an artificial intelligence (AI) solution that aims to enable surgeons to prepare for brain aneurysms operations.

Indeed, Oxford Heartbeat developed a medical device software called PreSize technology that will help plan neurovascular surgeries by predicting the behaviour of a particular stent in a patient’s anatomy. The tool is then able to create an accurate 3D model of the patient’s vessel tree, hence allowing the surgeon to find the best option possible for every patient.

This innovative technology will help plan the optimal stent to use and improve the safety of neurovascular surgery for patients.

The AI-based software has been used at Leeds Teaching Hospitals and was found to have a precision rate of 96.75%. It is next supposed to be trialled in six other NHS trusts.
