Topic: ''Re-Visioning Agility for the Platform Age”
Synopsis: As technologists, we're always devising and revising our terminology, and re-purposing words to best fit what we do. I'll be exploring the history and usage of two very common terms - 'Agile' and 'Platform Engineering' - and considering how well they chime with modern DevOps practices.

Topic: ''Real-time QAOps and Observability: Amplifying Test Automation with Monitoring and Feedback Loop”
Synopsis: QAOps combined with observability enhances test automation by providing real-time monitoring and continuous feedback throughout the software development lifecycle. By integrating appropriate monitoring tools, teams can track test performance, execution times, and failures in real time. Automated feedback loops help detect issues early, allowing teams to fix problems quickly. This approach also supports shift-left testing, where tests are run earlier in the development process, improving quality at every stage. Additionally, monitoring applications in production helps identify issues proactively, while data-driven insights from monitoring help improve testing strategies and decision-making.

Topic: ''Applying DevOps Practices at the intersection of AI and Life Sciences”
Synopsis: Scientific research has traditionally been the domain of bespoke code written by different laboratories executed on large internal HPC clusters. Basecamp Research is building a digital twin of life on Earth in order to train next generation biological foundation models. We are applying modern DevOps and MLOps principles to data operations that encompass more than one order of magnitude increase in scale per year, while deploying custom biological large language models in production and customer pipelines in a hybrid environment.

Topic: ''Code Generation using AI”
Synopsis: The traditional role of the Software Developer/Engineer is changing, with the advent of Generative AI (GenAI), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and auto code generation tools, such as ChatGPT and GitHub Pilot.
So how is GenAI and NLP going to affect code generation? What's the latest in this space, what's the current thinking and is it really true that the "death of coding" has already been predicted, so that "everybody in the world is now a programmer"?
In this talk, we will explore the latest developments, how good is GenAI at writing code, really, what is the role of Agentic AI, the current opinion on all this and what's next in store for this rapidly-changing area of IT.

Topic: ''Role of Self-service in DevOps”
Synopsis: DevOps has evolved as a highly popular software development methodology over the last couple of decades promising faster time to market and enhanced quality. Many organisations have made big strides in adopting the methodology and integrated DevOps as part of their delivery lifecycle. However, the full potential of DevOps is often hampered by persistent dependencies on centralised IT departments reducing the product teams’ agility and autonomy. This creates bottlenecks in the end-to-end processes such as provisioning of infrastructure, delivery pipelines, tools or automation of software delivery processes.
Self-service in DevOps is often an overlooked area but can be a powerful catalyst in reducing these dependencies. It empowers the product teams to have access to resources, manage them and manage related workflows independently and fosters an agile and dynamic development environment. Despite the clear advantages, the implementation of self-service is fraught with challenges. Organisational change resistance, risk averse culture, lack of trust between teams, strict governance, ever increasing regulatory requirements can impede acceptance and adoption.
Addressing these challenges need a strategic approach that details an enabling operating structure, clear guardrails, robust tooling, comprehensive training and regular audits. In my upcoming session, I will delve deeper into these topics drawing from real-world experiences to highlight the challenges faced, strategies to overcome them and the lessons learnt through such journeys.
I invite you to join my session where we will explore the untapped opportunities that self-service presents in the realm of DevOps. Together, we will engage in a comprehensive discussion, followed by a Q&A segment, to further unpack the transformative impact of self-service on the DevOps ecosystem. Don't miss the chance to be part of this enlightening conversation and take away actionable insights to drive your organisation's DevOps evolution.

Topic: ''Universal Credit – A Brief History”
Synopsis: Universal Credit is the UK’s benefit system and was the biggest shake-up in welfare in the UK since the Second World War. The in-house development of the new digital service was the start of a new way of working for UK Government, bringing private sector skills and practices into a world that outsourced all its IT projects. This brief history runs through how we made that happen, through to the scaling challenges presented by the sudden unemployment caused by the pandemic.
Andy Tyack is Deputy Director for Delivery on the Universal Credit digital programme. A software engineer by trade, working primarily in the telecoms sector, he now leads the platform teams for the Department for Work and Pension’s working-age benefits.

Topic: "Five Steps to Achieving Developer First Security”
Synopsis: Securing software takes teamwork—a unified approach from development through testing and into production. But each team has a distinct set of requirements and workflows that need to align to realize a concerted push for security. And while developers influence risk posture, they are often not trained in or focused on software security practices.
So, the real questions are: how can you make the effort that developers and DevOps teams are already putting in more valuable to the business? What's the best way to cultivate highly security-conscious developers so your software becomes more secure over time? Is there a way to derive tangible benefits for the business, the team, and the individual?
Join Application Security Specialist, Rob Haines, as he breaks down a five-step process with real-world applicability.

Topic: ''How to Secure Your Platform (Without Irritating Developers!)”
Synopsis: Synopsis: The Consequences of Ignoring Developer Satisfaction: Developers may avoid raising risks, seek ways to bypass your systems, and develop mistrust, which undermines the team's security culture. It’s essential to understand the root of their frustrations and collaborate with them rather than aggressively enforcing compliance.
* Understanding Developer Discontent with Security Policies: We'll explore common grievances and highlight specific changes that provoke the most frustration, supported by data and anecdotal evidence. This section will also include some myth-busting
* I propose 3 Non-Negotiables for Security Changes Impacting Development Workflow:
1. Transparency: Provide advance notice about upcoming changes.
2. Implementation Quality: Strive for accuracy in the initial rollout; avoid leaving detailed configurations for later. This is crucial for maintaining trust.
3. Feedback and Iteration: Treat security changes like a production deployment. Implement a “hypercare” phase and be prepared to roll back if the results are unsatisfactory.
