New robotics and automation projects in the agri-food industry

Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots has recently announced the launch of a new research and development project to improve the robotics and automation opportunities within the Agrifood industry.

Indeed, the project will be a collaborative effort between CAFRE and the Northern Ireland Technology Centre at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and will aim to improve productivity, reduce waste, maximize safety, and lower costs. By embedding robotics and automation into food manufacturing and packaging processes, the manufacturing sector will be able to enjoy many benefits in their production lines.

Besides, the project will help to raise awareness about the technology across the industry as well as promote robotics and automation within the CAFRE curriculum so as to ensure that students are well prepared for future opportunities.

Hence, the project hopes that automation and robotics will help transform food manufacturing and packaging processes and, in the long run, allow local companies to deliver growth and scale-up.
