It was recently announced that the Japanese company SoftBank would stop its production of robots for now.
Indeed, it looks like it could be the end for the famous robot Pepper, which was launched back in 2014, as the company said it would only start making the robot again when needed. Pepper was one of the first humanoid robots able to ‘read’ emotions and was used as a home companion and in public places including train stations and shops.
However, the robot never made it as a commercial product and only 27,000 units were made. Hence, it was mainly used for research and educational purposes at schools, colleges, and universities.
Moreover, the company said it would also be reducing the global robotics operation in France, where half of the 330 jobs will be cut down.
