Volkswagen Group to be using illegal software to alter pollutant emissions

It was recently reported that the Volkswagen Group is accused of using illegal software that would be altering pollutant emissions.

Indeed, it was allegedly stated that the group was using software to detect when the vehicle is tested on a dynamometer using the FTP-75 test protocol. By doing so, the electronics told the emissions system to run at 100% capacity in order to give the appearance that everything runs clean while it is actually releasing lots of nitrous oxides.

It was thus found out that there was illegal software in the engine control units of the automaker. It is also stated by the Court of Justice of the European Union that using software that alters the level of pollutant gas emissions of vehicles based on the outside temperature and altitude is prohibited.

It is very likely that a new legal battle is coming over the use of the software by the group.
